Summer 2024 Research Assistant Positions

SMART Lab Research Assistant Positions

The Lyles School of Civil Engineering SMART Lab is seeking multiple highly motivated
undergraduate research assistants for ongoing research projects during Summer 2024. The
undergraduate students will be hourly-paid and work closely with the postdoc/graduate mentors.

  • Project 1: The application of 3D Graphene in cementitious materials. Lead: Renee Rios (rtrios@purdue.edu)
  • Project 2: The non-destructive testing method of concrete and carbon footprint research of construction materials. Lead: Rui He (he566@purdue.edu)
  • Project 3: The study on mitigation mechanism of alkali silica reaction of construction materials. Lead: Mehrdad Razmara (mrazmara@purdue.edu)
  • Project 4: The systematic study on type IL PLC cement. Lead: Cihang Huang (huan1345@purdue.edu); Aritro Roy Mitra (mitra68@purdue.edu).
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in sample preparation, microstructure testing, and mechanical strength testing of various construction materials.
  • Conduct literature reviews and data analysis to support ongoing research projects.
  • Help maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Contribute to the development of technical reports.
  • Required but not limited to perform additional tasks related to research projects as needed.
  • Hours: approximately 20 hours per week
Requirements:
  • Prior research experience in construction materials, or non-destructive testing is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, responsibility, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The research assistant will start working after passing the interview and will be expected to work
during the upcoming summer. If the research assistant demonstrates strong performance and is a
good fit for the group, there may be opportunities for admission to the graduate program.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in
materials research and contributing to the development of sustainable construction materials. If
you meet the requirements and are passionate about one of the projects, please submit your resume
and contact the project leader(s), and copy Professor Yining Feng (feng109@purdue.edu).
