Michigan Department of Transportation Seeking Transportation Engineer, Southfield, Michigan

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer, located in Southfield, Michigan.

This position functions as an entry level transportation engineer that will assist with investigations of over 1,000 complex bridges in an assigned area on a continuing basis. The position will be trained for insuring the safety and reliability of MDOT highway bridges. The position will be trained in key inspection procedures and prioritization of the Metro Region bridges. Considerable independent field judgments will be developed to evaluate critical conditions, causes of deterioration, and/or emergency repairs. This position is responsible for assisting with selected bridges in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Effective inspection of bridges at times involves the employee operating a motor vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Weight Rating (GVWR) of between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds.
