We anticipate a need for an intern based in our Ann Arbor office to assist with a variety of water quality projects, field investigations, and environmental sensor development during the summer of 2019.

Position Responsibilities
Our summer interns typically work on a variety of projects. Responsibilities are expected to include:
- Field sampling from a vessel on the Great Lakes
- Other field sampling and water quality data collection activities
- Data management and analysis
- Hands on development and prototyping of hardware and software for Internet of Things (IoT) sensors
- Working cross-functionally with engineers focusing on embedded software, mechanical design, software engineering, data science, quality and data management
- Testing, deploying, and maintaining wireless sensor network prototypes
- Literature research for relevant environmental topicsThe position is expected to start in May 2019 and last through August 2019.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years completed toward a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Computer, or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science at an accredited university is required. Graduate students are welcome to apply.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as are strong analytical and computational abilities.
- Training/experience in data management and analysis, water quality assessment, environmental science, or related area is preferred.
- Computer programming experience in C++ (Arduino variant preferred), Python/MicroPython, mBed OS, and other embedded device languages is desirable.
- Proficiency writing scripts and handling data from sensors is beneficial.
- Experience with hardware prototyping that includes soldering, drilling, breadboard testing, electronics assembly and testing is also desirable.
- Relevant work experience is a plus, but not required
- Must be legally able to work in the U.S. (proper documentation required)
