Stormwater Position: Drummond Carpenter, PLLC

Drummond Carpenter is expanding, and we are looking for a talented Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our firm, either remotely or from our Ann Arbor office. Ideal candidates will have proven capabilities in and excel at providing innovative engineering solutions to assist our municipal, state, and federal clients in areas such as stormwater management, infrastructure design, green stormwater infrastructure, water quality studies, watershed management, permitting, resiliency planning, and modeling. 

Drummond Carpenter is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) with five areas of practice: civil and water resources engineering, green infrastructure and sustainability, environmental modeling, environmental assessment and remediation, and nuclear disposal and storage. Drummond Carpenter is a leader in developing solutions to many of our country’s toughest civil and environmental challenges that impact the health and safety of communities and the natural environment. While we are headquartered in Orlando, we have offices in Michigan and our projects are nationwide, ranging from managing impacts from climate change and creating more resilient systems, to addressing harmful algal blooms in lakes and safely storing nuclear waste.

POSITION ACTIVITIES 

Some of the key responsibilities are listed below. It is not a requirement to have experience in each category, but to be a motivated individual willing to expand your competences under the direction of a supervisor. 

  • Performing civil site design and analyses 
  • Overseeing the development of construction documents and permit applications 
  • Conceptualizing and implementing green stormwater infrastructure solutions for the built environment 
  • Developing hydrologic and hydraulic models from a range of open source and proprietary software 
  • Peer reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic studies 
  • Developing water quantity and water quality transport models 
  • Urban stormwater monitoring o Field investigations and site inspections 
  • Climate change adaptation and resiliency planning 

You will be supported by Drummond Carpenter’s senior practitioners and professionals as you advance to the next stage of your career. Based on your experience, you will be expected to perform some project management tasks, assist in business development opportunities, and to mentor junior staff as applicable.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, natural resources with emphasis on water resources, or related discipline. (required) 
  • Advanced degree in civil or environmental engineering, natural resources science with emphasis on water resources, or closely related discipline. (preferred) 
  • Professional engineering (PE) licensure or the ability to become licensed in two years. (preferred) 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred) 
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as EPA-SWMM, HECRAS, Autodesk products, GIS (ESRI products). (required) 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
