Northrop Grumman Campus Visit

 Greetings!

My name is Cliff Frieler. I have been an Engineer/Scientist at Northrop Grumman Corporation for over three decades and a recruiter for a strategic talent program called "Future Technical Leaders"  for 16 years. My co-recruiter at Purdue is Tim Harris (Aero Astro Eng, BS'12, MS'14). Tim is an alumni of the FTL program class of 2017 and has been a Systems Engineer and Manager in our San Diego, CA location since he finished the program. Tim and I will be on Purdue campus in two weeks to give an InfoSession and conduct interviews for interested candidates.

FTL is a three year rotational program for top MS, PhD and post-docs from a select group of universities who are interested in seeing the range of product lines, business areas and customer groups a large company like NGC engages. In October, we will invite roughly 50 candidates from across the country to an interview event. I would like to make sure that Purdue is well represented.

We are interested in people whose background is any of the physical sciences, math or engineering disciplines, as FTL program participants are involved in projects throughout the company. You have heard of the James Webb Space Telescope, but did you know that Northrop Grumman was the Lead Systems Integrator for the program? In addition to CyberSecurity work for several customers, we have projects that would interest students in BioInformatics, many projects in data analytics, and a research group pursuing quantum computing, superconducting circuit design and related technologies in the Baltimore area. Of course, there are our better known business areas, such as satellite sensing systems, high-energy laser systems, UAVs, Army vehicles and Naval network and communications.  We have also recently won two large programs to support the United States' strategic defense triad, the air based component B-21 Strike, and the missile component Sentinel.  Across this broad landscape of activity, we employ the gamut of science and engineering practices.

Notwithstanding this broad range of directly applicable skills, the FTL program is a strategic hiring program and we hire the intellect, not the specific skill set.  We are looking for sharp, inquisitive minds with a deep technical background, particularly those with demonstrated leadership capability, ready to broaden their perspective and their experience base.
