 The application for Division of Summer Session Peer Mentors is now open! We are hiring Peer Mentors for three different programs in Summer 2021. There will be approximately 36 Peer Mentor positions available, depending on size and need of each program. Click on the links below to find more information about each of our summer programs.

Summer College for High School Students

 

A peer mentor is a leader, a supporter, an advocate, and a friend. The Division of Summer Session Peer Mentors serve to support incoming freshmen and high school students in their transition to college life and higher education. Peer Mentors will serve as a role model and a facilitator who provides access to people and resources around campus.  

 

What are the benefits of being a Peer Mentor?

·       Enroll in summer courses to save money and time to graduation.

·       Develop high-quality leadership and mentorship skills.

  • Guide new students through their first experiences at Purdue University.
  • Move into your summer housing placement prior to the arrival of students participating in the program.

What are the qualifications of being a Peer Mentor?

  • Be in good academic and student conduct standing.
  • Be willing to learn and share information about the Purdue University community, student life, and campus resources.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have a genuine desire to help their peers succeed.
  • Be self-motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Display a willingness to learn about different cultures.

What are the job requirements of being a Peer Mentor?

  • Commit to work some weekends and week nights July 9th – August 13th.
  • Mandatory trainings in March, April, and May 19th – 13th.
  • Lead orientation and move in of students July 9th – July 11th.
  • Live on campus in University Residences.
    • A scholarship of up to $1,250 will be provided to help cover costs of room/board and a meal plan during the 5-week summer session.
  • Enroll in at least 9 credit hours during the summer session.

    • Enroll in HONR 29900 - Summer Mentorship Experience. This is a 6-week course designed specifically for Division of Summer Session Peer Mentors.
    • Scholarship opportunities of up to $2,500 to help cover summer tuition and fees may be available.
