2021  Engineering  Intern  -  Structural   

Position Summary 

KPFF Los Angeles Structural is looking for Structural and Civil Engineering students who are self-motivated and eager to deepen their knowledge of structural engineering  while gaining real-world experience. Summer Internships are full-time at 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Spring part-time internships may be available depending on LA Structural workload and student availability;  to be eligible students must be available a minimum of two full business days per week in the Los Angeles Structural office. Due to Covid-19 we are currently working from home, however when it is safe to reopen, this position will be working from our downtown office in a collaborative team environment. 

KPFF Los Angeles Structural strives to provide the most educational and valuable intern experience possible. Previous interns made positive contributions to over 100 projects in Summer 2020 in addition to attending active job sites, project meetings with clients, and industry events . We also provide the opportunity to form lasting personal connections through multiple social events including happy hours, KPFF Office Olympics, and our Summer Wellness Challenge .

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 3 years toward a BS in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in Structures) must be completed by the end of Spring 2020 . 
  • Transcripts must show completed courses in: 
    • Concrete 
    • Steel or Wood Design 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA or above in  Bachelor’s coursework 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structure 
  • Enrolled in a Master’s program for Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structures 
  • Candidates with graduate coursework in: 
    • Structural Design 
    • Steel or Wood Design 
    • Concrete 
    • Seismic 
  • Previous intern experience in a Structural or Civil Engineering role 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals 
  • Effectively work on a team with individuals of varying backgrounds and experiences 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and professional demeanor 
  • Ability to independently plan, document organize, and engage in problem solving 
  • Excellent research and information gathering skills 

Physical Demands and Work Environment  

  • Due to COVID 19, this job may temporarily require responsibilities to be conducted remotely.   
  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.  
  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. 
  • May occasionally need to lift items up to 15 lbs.
