Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant: 2020 Water Pricing Intern

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant announces the following position for a Water Pricing Intern. The successful applicant will assist with collection and analysis of water pricing and policy data for the northeastern Illinois region. The intern will gather data from current municipal ordinances and websites; conduct research on water pricing and governance practices; and develop resulting outreach products. Candidates should have a strong interest in one or more of the following areas: water policy, utility rate setting, data management and urban planning. The preferred candidate will have strong spreadsheet skills, be detailed-oriented, and be comfortable working independently. The intern will be working for Margaret Schneemann, IISG Water Resource Economist. Angela Archer will be the supervisor at Purdue University for purposes of payroll.

The intern will be paid $15.00 per hour and will work up to 37.5 hours per week for a duration of 12 weeks. This position will be working remotely and will require the use of a computer, reliable internet service, and the capability to videoconference. The intern will be an employee of Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.

Qualifications: Candidates should have strong organizational skills with proficiency in Excel; an interest in public policy, urban planning, statistics, finance and economics; coursework in social science research methods and the ability to work independently in a quiet environment is preferred.

Eligibility
         Undergraduates currently enrolled at Purdue University, West Lafayette, and currently enrolled in the 2020 Fall Semester.
         Graduate students are not eligible.
         Applicants should be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or have an active F-1 visa.
         Previous IISG interns who have participated in the Summer Internship program are not eligible.

End of employment, interns will be required to:
         Write a final report describing their work. A template will be provided to the intern.
         Summarize the report into a news story that will be featured in the IISG Newsroom. Assistance will be provided.
