Assist Operator in monitoring, operating and performing routine maintenance and repairs at the Water Works, Water Supplies, Wastewater Facilities and Water Services. Assist in the documentation of administrative, health, safety and environmental requirements. Direct internal and external customers and suppliers of potable water, raw water, storm water, and sewage to Water Works/Wastewater Supervisor. Perform various tasks as assigned by the Water Works/Wastewater Supervisor. Must complete mandated training. On 24 hour call - irregular planned and unplanned overtime and flextime required. Cross- train with others in Utilities Operations.
REVISED:
Required:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Two years mechanical experience in one of the following areas: water, wastewater, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention.
- Ability to continue education and training.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics.
- Ability to read basic blueprints.
- Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 plus lbs. occasionally.
- Indiana Water Works Operator Certifications WT-2 and DSL (Distribution System Large) certification.
- Must acquire Indiana Water Works Operator Certifications WT-2 and DSL (Distribution System Large) certification within 2 1/2 years of employment.
- A valid US or Canadian driver's license.
Preferred:
- Three years mechanical aptitude in one of the following areas: water, wastewater, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention.
- Awareness of environmental health concerns or environmental health experience.
- Vocational/Technical school in water works/wastewater operations; continuing education units and/or directly applicable experiences may be substituted.
- Skills in sampling and disinfecting techniques.
- Indiana Water Works/Wastewater Operator Certifications WT-2 (Water Treatment) and DSL (Distribution System Large) or wastewater treatment plant operator class A certification.
- Knowledge of AWWA (American Water Works Association) standards.
- AWWA Waterworks Short Course.
- Ability to pass mandated physical exams.
