CIVIL Engineer


DUTIES: 
 
Assists with city/civil engineering studies, project design, review, and inspections relating to City infrastructure related projects. The position has responsibility to oversee and perform design for Capital Improvements as assigned. Other responsibilities include reviewing easement documents, design and construction projects in accordance with state laws and engineering standards.
 
 
SALARY:
Minimum starting salary $66,487.98 with excellent benefits (July 1, 2018)
QUALIFICATIONS: 
§  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field & 1-3 years related work experience
§  Ability to acquire State of Iowa PE license
§  Possession of a current State of Iowa Driver’s License and insurable with City’s insurance company
§  Knowledge of the principles & practices of public works
§  Knowledge of the investigation, design, & construction of general public works projects
§  Knowledge of Iowa DOT standards; SUDAS standards; Federal, State, and local rules and regulations
§  Skill in utilizing engineering software and other related software programs
§  Skill in preparation & maintenance of engineering records
§  Skill in establishing & maintaining effective working relationships with employees, city officials, officials of other governmental agencies, contractors, & the public
§  Ability to effectively analyze data
§  Ability to prepare technical reports and accurate cost estimates
§  Ability to organize and work on multiple projects, individually and as part of a team
§  Ability to effectively represent the City at various meetings and presentations
§  Familiarity with capabilities & limits of general office equipment, including computers
§  Residency in Iowa and within 30 air miles of City Hall required within 6 months of appointment
