Full Time Summer Engineering Intern

SALARY: $13.00 Hourly

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To assist the Carmel Engineering Department staff with their daily tasks.   
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Reviewing subdivision design plans for compliance with city standards
• Review storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP)   
• Developing possible solutions to drainage problems
• Construction inspection tasks
• Facilitating communication between staff and other city departments
• Collect data for asset management plans
• Inspect and/or inventory BMPs.

Non-essential Job Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Ability to learn design standards
• A basic knowledge regarding drainage and engineering materials
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, co-workers, and customers
• Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, humidity, rain, standing water, fumes, severe weather, bright sunlight, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animal/ insect bites, toxic agents, disease or pathogenic substances.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• High school diploma.
• Completion of at least two years of an engineering or engineering technology baccalaureate program.
• Current valid Driver’s License.
